Much like we have our preferences for a product or choice of a company, branding you is an extension of developing an image for competing better in a market full of jobs. Marketing your skills, expertise, and experiences sets you apart from the crowd and describes the value addition you bring to a situation. We are the CEOs of our own company: Me Inc. To be in business today, our most important job is to be head marketer of a brand called YOU, says management Guru Tom Peters. The following are a few steps to consider and build yourself into a brand you want to be:
Find out what are your aims and aspirations for your career brand. Do a research of how individuals in your field, whom you look up to, have achieved their goals. Spend time with yourself to understand what is your USP (Unique Selling Proposition) and how do you stand out in terms of your passion, strengths, and achievements.
Analyse your current position and state in career. Talk to your trusted friends at work and back home to find out what they think of you professionally. Understand what needs to be changed and why?
Make some time to get additional training, education, or certification, which can help greatly enhance your career brand. It is also essential to deliver your message at the correct places. Join groups and forums of interests to sell brand you.
Give extra attention to the details. Gear yourself up and include all the tangible and in-tangible characteristics of marketing yourself. Work hard on your non-verbal communication skills, attire, hair, and groom your personality. Keep your social media updates and virtual profiles in sync with your career brand. Mange your brand to create a niche and how you want to be perceived by others. Blog about your experiences and perspectives couple of times in a month to make it more about you than your work or organization.
Network and update your friends and colleagues about what youre up to and use offline and personal marketing to your advantage.  Keep reviewing your brand and keep track of your career to achieve all that you have dreamt of.
